MindBody, a provider of tech services to the wellness industry, has released a study ranking the Top 10 Healthiest Cities in America, part of its 2020 MindBody Wellness Index. The data was compiled initially from a proprietary algorithm that defined consumer health, and included a 20,000-person survey on consumer fitness behaviors and the frequency that residents receive wellness services, along with wellness business-performance metrics. Once those rankings were determined, measures such as body-mass-index figures, alcohol consumption, connection to community, healthy eating and spiritual wellness were factored in.

From these metrics, Miami rose to the top. In the Florida city, 80 percent of residents engaged in exercise at least once a week; and 31 percent of consumer placed a high priority on receiving self-care services, as well as salon and spa treatments, the largest percentage of all the cities that were analyzed. Miami was also the most well-rested city, as 62 percent said they get at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night. And 61 percent of Miami residents said they feel spiritually fulfilled.

"Our research validates that health and wellness is on the rise in hundreds of communities across the country, and these 10 cities exemplify that trend," said Rick Stollmeyer, CEO and co-founder of MindBody.
