Short Cuts: New Life for a Landmark L.A. Theater
Polishing a Beaux Arts Gem

Fresh from a multimillion- dollar restoration and renovation project, the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles ( is open again and trolling for group business. While the 1926 Beaux Arts venue now features modern comforts such as air conditioning, wheelchair accessibility and a cutting-edge audiovisual system, its rich decor remains intact and grander than ever. Seventy-five years of grime have been stripped from the lobby’s famous marble walls, and its two 12-foot-tall crystal and bronze chandeliers now tower over 2,000 new, lavishly upholstered seats.
