Short Cuts:
On the SpotWhat is the one meeting cost you most resent paying?

“I do not think I am alone when I say I get annoyed at attrition costs. In April, I had some attendees turned away from an overbooked hotel, and I still was charged attrition for their ‘unused rooms.’ I’m still trying to sort that one out.”

Tammy Andis
Meeting Planner
National Juice Products Association
Tampa, Fla.

“Paying extra for the rental of exhibit tables, when you know they’ve been paid for many, many times over and are in bad condition anyway. It is just nitpicking [on the part of the supplier]. I’ve already paid for the booth, so to be charged extra for the use of a table often irks me.”

Beth Bailey
Convention Director
American Business Women’s Association
Kansas City, Mo.

“Material handling, also known as drayage. It is expensive about a dollar a pound and often you have no say in who is authorized to carry out such tasks.”

Louise Wisla
Trade Show & Seminar Manager
Commerce Clearing House Inc.
River Wood, Ill.
