Centerplate eventTalk about a stress test for the catering staff. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's centennial banquet for 16,206 people, held last year at the Water E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., has been proclaimed the largest ever sit-down dinner by Guinness World Records. Approximately 1,200 waiters served 3 tons of beef filet, 2.25 tons of mashed potatoes and 1,800 gallons of pink lemonade. The catering company, Centerplate/NBSE, needed 300 chefs, 46 managers, 65 captains and 32 distribution assistants. The company says it used 10.5 miles of tablecloths and napkins.
