Meetings & Conventions: Short Cuts May 1998

May 1998
Short Cuts:ETC.Eating or serving swordfish is now politically
incorrect. The "Give Swordfish a Break" campaign, launched in
January by two environmental groups, SeaWeb and the National
Resources Defense Council, argues overfishing is depleting the
species in the North Atlantic. The effort is backed by 27 East
Coast chefs who pledged to take swordfish off their menus until
measures are taken to protect and replenish the population.
Grouch city: In a New York Times poll,
45 percent of Americans cited Manhattan residents as "basically
unfriendly." But that doesn't make the city a bad place: Sixty
percent have a good image of New York City, up from 40 percent two
years ago.
