Short Cuts:
On the SpotIf stranded on a desert island, what one book would you want to have with you?

“I would definitely take Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It is a favorite of mine as it has romance and mystery, a little bit of everything and it is an entertaining read.”

Susan Patton
Membership Manager
Association of American University Presses
New York, N.Y.

“This is a very difficult question for a book person. One choice would be Boatbuilding for Beginners by Jim Michalak, as I have no desire to be a Robinson Crusoe. One week on a beach is plenty enough for me. A more literary choice would be Essays of E.B. White, as he is sweet-hearted, witty and would remind me of home.”

Jim Dana
Executive Director
Great Lakes Booksellers Association
Grand Haven, Mich.

“I would want Travels by Michael Crichton. I love the way that he writes about different cultures, and while I was sitting on my desert island, the book would serve as a window to the larger world.”
