CityCenter, the $8.5 billion megadevelopment on the Las Vegas Strip from partners MGM Mirage and Dubai World, began its long-awaited opening Tuesday night when the 1,495-room Vdara opened for business. Most units in the 57-story condo-hotel are suites with full kitchens; deluxe suites and one- and two-bedroom units also are available. The nongaming property offers 10,000 square feet of meeting space, an 18,000-square-foot spa, a 40,000-square-foot pool deck and a signature restaurant, Silk Road. Vdara's unveiling is the beginning of a two-week opening celebration for the project: The Crystals shopping center opens tomorrow; the 392-room Mandarin Oriental begins welcoming customers on Saturday; and Aria, the 4,004-room centerpiece hotel-casino, debuts Dec. 16.
