For a fundraiser this past August, the San Diego chapter of the Arthritis Foundation held a wine tasting and silent auction at a member's home. In doing so, the group saved about $5,000 in space rental and food and beverage costs. When holding a party at a private home, be sure to site-inspect carefully, says AF event planner Andrea Muir. Among things to look for: Make sure the home has an extra-large kitchen, powerful air conditioning (if it's a warm climate or during summer months), and room for extra seating and tables.
