For the eighth year in a row, Meeting Professionals International has teamed with American Express to produce a broad picture of the meetings industry. More than 1,800 members of responded to the organization's FutureWatch study this year, 31 percent of whom cited budget cuts as their biggest concern, up from 15 percent last year. This year, 15 percent of those surveyed are troubled by having to do more with less; just 1 percent chose that option in 2009. Looking ahead, 28 percent of respondents expect gradual industry growth this year, 18 percent expect poor conditions to persist and 13 percent anticipate more web-based meetings.
