Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International reports that 49 percent of approximately 1,000 meeting planners attending the association's Affordable Meetings Mid-America Conference & Exposition this week feel increased pressure to demonstrate the metrics of a successful event, now that budgets have decreased and meetings are under greater scrutiny. Conducted by J. Spargo & Associates and analyzed by 20|20 Assessment, the pre-show survey showed that measurements such as satisfaction surveys, net revenue, attendance size, room night count and sponsorships are being requested of meeting planners. Also revealed were the top five factors planners use to select event venues, which are (in descending order): size of meeting space, cleanliness of guest rooms, customer service, venue location and price. In addition, 84 percent of respondents rely on the latest technology, most commonly online registration, social networking, eRFPs, email blasts, and marketing and blogs for business purposes.
