The April edition of Meeting Professionals International's Business Barometer notes some positive employment trends. In April, 14 percent of the more than 300 respondents were increasing the number of their full-time employees and 17 percent were increasing part-time workers, compared with 11 percent and 10 percent respectively, in October 2009. Likewise, in April, 22 percent were reducing the number of full-time employees and 19 percent were reducing their part-timers, compared with 32 percent and 25 percent, respectively, last October. The numbers concerning the use of outside contractors were stable from October through February, with about 24 percent of respondents reporting they were hiring such workers. That statistic jumped in April, as 31 percent of those surveyed said they were hiring contract employees.
