On Monday, the Convention Industry Council announced the release of the new Certified Meeting Professional recertification application. The updated application was modified "to ensure relevancy to a broader global meeting professional while ensuring that CMPs are maintaining the high standards of the credential," according to a CIC statement. The revised document focuses on planners' continued work experience, education and participation in industry-support activities. All CMPs must recertify every five years. Requirements include three years of work experience in the industry and 25 hours of continuing education, or 10 of the continuing education hours may be supplemented by three industry-support or professional development activities. Earning a bachelor's degree or higher, or international equivalent, during the five-year recertification period also will satisfy the continuing-education requirement.
