Meeting Professionals International has commissioned the research arm of Leeds (England) Metropolitan University to oversee a three-year study into the importance of corporate social responsibility to the meetings industry. Academic researchers from the university's U.K. Centre for Events Management, International Centre for Responsible Tourism and Centre for Hospitality will analyze global trends by interviewing executives of venues, organizations and suppliers, as well as talking to event consumers worldwide. A detailed report will look at external environment, industry engagement and consumer demand and will be released in three phases at major global industry events in the United States, Asia and across Europe mid-2012 through 2013. The research initiative has been made possible by a US$500,000 investment in the MPI Foundation from InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).
