The Society of Critical Care Medicine canceled plans to hold its 6,000-attendee convention in downtown Los Angeles because of concerns related to the proposed construction of an NFL stadium near the convention center. If the proposal is approved, the 72,000-seat football stadium won’t be completed until the end of 2013, just months before the society’s event the following February. Rather than risk being surrounded by construction if the project runs late, the society has moved its convention to San Francisco. The organization’s plans to hold its 2021 convention in Los Angeles have not changed.
