The 82-room LOISIUM (right) in Langenlois, Austria, has a cube shape that seems to float on a glass base; the building sits atop ancient wine cellars. Inside, an Aveda spa offers wine-themed treatments.

Opening this month on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand, is The Library, which brings bold, minimalist European design to the beachfront in 26 secluded bungalows.

A 19th-century water-purification plant in the historic city of Puebla, Mexico, will be reborn in March as the 26-room La Purificadora, wholly designed in black and white and incorporating artifacts found during excavation for the building.
