Verana hotelMexico Boutique Hotels (800-728-9098; has added six properties to its elite roster of hideaways. A sampling:

Verana (pictured right), in the jungle outside of Puerto Vallarta, is so secluded that it requires a half-hour boat ride to reach. The seven casitas are built with plenty of open-air spaces, as is the spa, in which guests are massaged under palapas open-sided thatched-roof huts.

Playa Rosa Hotel & Casitas, a remote clustering of 10 villas and bungalows, is a half-hour flight from Puerto Vallarta. The accommodations were created in developer Gian Franco Brignone’s Careyes style, with Mediterranean accents on traditional Mexican architecture.

Villa@Merida, a restored nobleman’s estate, is in the historical city of Merida, on the northern Yucatan. The mansion’s seven guest rooms look out on a courtyard and a tropical garden, hidden from the rest of the city.
