In order to welcome the Democratic National Convention (Aug. 25-28) properly, the 512-room Grand Hyatt Denver Downtown is spending $3.9 million to renovate the hotel's three presidential suites, two hospitality suites and the Grand Club lounge, which make up the property's 25th and 26th floors. "Green" touches such as energy-saving devices are among the improvements.

The 136-room Aloft Montreal Airport opened this week at the entrance to the city's Trudeau International Airport. Other cities where Aloft hotels are scheduled to open in 2009 include Brooklyn, N.Y.; Denver; Dallas; Las Vegas, and Toronto.

Tidewater Hotels & Resorts, which owns and manages 17 full- and select-service properties in Virginia, has been acquired by Barcelo Crestline. The portfolio now will be managed by Crestline Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Barcelo.
