As of May 5, five of the six U.S. legacy airlines will begin charging $25 for a second checked bag on economy-class, domestic tickets. These carriers are United, Continental, Delta, Northwest and US Airways. American is the only legacy airline to allow two free pieces of checked luggage. Budget airline AirTran has also announced it will begin charging $10 for a second bag on May 15. United also is raising the fee to change a ticket from $100 to $150.
