According to several news sources,
including CNN, Reuters and the Associated Press, the Italian
government has approved a deal that would allow the country's
embattled airline, Alitalia, to be bought out by rival carriers Air
France-KLM for a fire-sale price of $183 million. Air France-KLM
says it will not cement the deal, however, until it is approved by
the airline's strike-prone union and Italy's next government, which
will be determined by elections held in April.
