Denise Coll, Starwood Hotels & Resort Worldwide's former senior vice president of operations, has been named president of Starwood's Hotel Group, North American division. Coll, who has held positions from general manger to regional vice president of operations for the company, also has served as chair of the board for the Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The city council in Grapevine, Texas, was expected to put the final stamp of approval last night on Gaylord Entertainment's plans to expand the 1,511-room Gaylord Texan. More than 200,000 square feet of meeting space will be added, as well as about 500 guest rooms, a resort pool and other recreational amenities. The project, which will cost about $315 million, will break ground in about six months and finish up in 2010.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide released details about the W Boston Hotel & Residences, which will open in 2009 in Boston's downtown theater district. The 235-room hotel will have 9,800 square feet of meeting space, 123 residential units, a Sweat Fitness center, a restaurant and a spa.

According to the Orange County Register, the 375-room Embassy Suites Anaheim South hotel, one mile from the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., will add a 17-story expansion with 238 rooms and approximately 50,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel currently offers nearly 30,000 square feet of function space, including the 10,000-square-foot Landmark Ballroom. Completion is expected sometime in 2010.
