Local Update

A $47.5 million expansion was completed in July at the Boise Centre, bringing the facility's total to 92,000 square feet of total convention space, including 29 meeting rooms. The new building, Boise Centre East, features 36,000 square feet of space with a 13,000-square-foot ballroom and eight additional breakout rooms. The existing building was renovated as part of the project, and a junior ballroom, an executive boardroom and a patio were added, along with a number of new restrooms. A new concourse connects to the 252-room Grove Hotel and the 5,000-seat CenturyLink Arena.

American Airlines added nonstop flights in 2017 between Boise and Chicago O'Hare, joining United Airlines in the service. Southwest Airlines began service from Boise to San Diego last June.

The 110-room boutique Inn at 500 Capitol debuted last February steps from the State Capitol and a few blocks from the convention center. The hotel's restaurant, Richard's, is owned by James Beard Award--nominated chef Richard Langston and serves contemporary Italian fare. The property also features a fitness center and 2,300 square feet of meeting space.

Boise National Forest's own ski resort, Bogus Basin, wants to bring in more summer visitors and to enhance skiers' time on the mountain in the winter. A ropes course, an alpine coaster and a 200-seat amphitheater are in the plans; find out more here.
