Last week New York Governor Eliot Spitzer announced in a public hearing regarding the state's plans to renovate New York City's Jacob K. Javits Center that he is suspending the sale of a parcel of Javits-owned land that would have raised an estimated $450 million for city transportation projects. The sale of the land, which occupies an entire city block, ultimately would have prevented future expansion of the convention center. Spitzer also said a task force made up of city and state officials and industry executives will be established to determine the fate of the center and address the state of the the convention and trade show industry in the city.
