Local Update

The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa is undergoing a $26.5 million facelift. Among the property upgrades slated for completion this summer are the resort's 508 guest rooms and suites. Situated on 23 oceanfront acres at iconic Pu'u Keka'a (Black Rock) on Ka'anapali Beach, the resort has 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space.

Beginning in 2018, state lodging taxes increased by 1 percent to help finance a $9 billion rapid-transit project in the capital city of Honolulu on Oahu.

On Maui's North Shore, the 463-room Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, has unveiled a propertywide renovation. The resort has a total of 173,000 square feet of outdoor function space and 12 meeting rooms.

The $100 million reimagined Wailea Beach Resort--Marriott, Maui, now offers five pools (one with Hawaii's longest waterslide), a movie house, 543 redesigned guest rooms and suites, and upgraded indoor/outdoor meeting and event spaces. Also in-house are six new dining options, including Humble Market Kitchin by Roy Yamaguchi, Whale's Tale oceanfront juice bar and Mo Bettah Food Truck.
