Last week, Mississippi Senate Bill No.
2199 -- an amendment to the Mississippi Code of 1972 that governs
gaming and casinos in the state -- was approved by a vote of 36 to
14. The Mississippi Code now reads, "Legal gaming may be conducted
only in counties in which legal gaming is being conducted on the
effective date of this act" -- thus limiting new casinos from
springing up outside counties that already have them. The bill now
goes to the state's house of representatives.
