A 250-room W Hotel is being built in Huntington Beach, Calif. Scheduled to open in 2010, the W Huntington Beach will offer 11,000 square feet of meeting space, a restaurant, a bar and a destination spa.

A stand-alone nightclub at the 463-room Renaissance Austin Hotel will be turned into a special events center, according to the Austin Business Journal. About $2.5 million will be spent on the 7,000-square-foot facility's conversion. When finished, the hotel will have a total of 67,000 square feet of meeting space.

A 588-room Crowne Plaza will be built in Louisville, Ky. The hotel will be about a mile from the Louisville International Airport and will offer 50,000 square feet of meeting space. The property is expected to open in late 2008.

The 214-room Park Inn London, Russell Square, will open next month. The Rezidor property will have 14 meeting rooms and a fitness center.

The 105-room Park Inn Dakar in Senegal will open in 2009. It will have a fitness center and meeting facilities.

The 330-room, 125-unit Fairmont Aventerra, Palm Desert, is planned for Avanterra, a $2.5 billion luxury resort being built in Palm Desert, Calif. Notable features will include the 45,000-square-foot Willow Stream Spa and 26,000 square feet of function space, including a 7,000-square-foot ballroom. Ground will be broken on the nearly $200 million project in 2009.

Morgans Hotel Group will build the 200-room Palm Springs Hotel & Residences, a Mondrian hotel, in downtown Palm Springs, Calif. On 10.5 acres across from the convention center, the property will feature a restaurant, a bar, a spa, a fitness center and a pool. Though details have not been determined, the hotel will offer significant flexible indoor and outdoor meeting space, including a ballroom, a boardroom and a screening room. The resort is expected to open in 2010.
The 342-room Hotel Marina El Cid has completed a $50 million expansion, adding 50 new suites, a gourmet restaurant, 13,000-square-foot spa, beachfront bar and 7,500-square-foot convention center. The property, which is midway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and 15 minutes south of Cancun International Airport, features nearly 2,000 square feet of beach; junior, one-, two- and three-bedroom suites among 11 buildings; a 22,000-square-foot pool; four on-site restaurants; and a 120-slip marina. The resort also offers 5,382 square feet of outdoor function space.
