On Oct. 15, Airbus delivered its first
A380 airplane to Singapore Airlines. The 525-seat jetliner -- the
largest commercial aircraft to date -- will take its maiden flight
from Singapore to Sydney, Australia, on Oct. 25. Development of the
A380 has been plagued by budget overruns and production delays,
though Airbus maintains that future orders, for 185 planes to 15
companies, are on schedule.
Last week, Clear, a subsidiary company
of Verified Identity Pass Inc., opened express security lanes at
the international terminal of San Francisco International Airport
(SFO). The Clear program allows registered members to use faster
security lanes at the airport, after being screened and approved by
the government. The program now carries a $100 annual fee;
participants are issued an encrypted biometric identification card.
SFO is the 10th airport to institute Clear lanes; the system now
claims 70,000 registered members nationwide.
