Harrah's Atlantic City will open the first 12 floors of its 961-room, 44-story Waterfront Tower in early 2008, with the remaining floors opening by July of next year. The Waterfront Tower, which represents the final phase of Harrah's $550 million upgrade and expansion project, will be the tallest hotel casino in Atlantic City and the second-tallest building in New Jersey. When fully open, the new tower will increase hotel capacity by almost 60 percent, to 2,591 rooms.

Galaxy Entertainment Group, a Hong Kong-based gaming company, plans to build 12 casinos on Macau's Cotai Strip featuring a total of 8,500 rooms and 750,000 square feet of meeting space, the South China Morning Post reported last week. Galaxy Entertainment, which is one of three companies licensed to operate casinos in the country, did not respond to a request to confirm the information. The Morning Post said the first phase of the US$3 billion project will be called GalaxyWorld Resort and will include three hotels with a total of 2,500 rooms.
