A complete remodeling of the Mauna Kea Golf Course at the 310-room Mauna Kea Resort on Hawaii currently is under way. The redesign is being led by Rees Jones, son of the layout's original designer, Robert Trent Jones Sr. The greens, tees, fairways and rough of the 18-hole, par-72 course will be replaced with new hybrid grasses. Key features of the revamp include: replacing the course's sand, restoring the bunkers' original look and rebuilding all greens to USGA standards. The layout's clubhouse and restaurant also will be renovated in time for the fall 2008 reopening.
