The Nevada-based Culinary Workers Union
Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 reached a tentative
agreement Monday with the Sahara Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas,
representing about 700 Sahara employees. On Saturday, a tentative
agreement also was reached concerning the 1,200 workers at the
city's Stratosphere Hotel & Casino. Union members from both
properties will vote to ratify the agreements on Sept. 15.
Meanwhile, 10,000 Las Vegas casino and laundry workers still
without contracts are holding a strike authorization vote today,
which would allow the unions' negotiating committee to call for
economic action, up to a strike, if new contract settlements aren't
reached. Those members work at properties in downtown Las Vegas and
on the Strip.
