A case against online travel companies brought by Orange County officials has been thrown out of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Lawyers for the county had argued the companies, such as Expedia and Orbitz, are paying taxes only on the bulk rate they buy the rooms for, not for the higher rate they then charge the traveler. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Orange County auditors estimated the area is losing $5.5 million a year on online bookings. Lawyers for the county told the paper they plan to appeal the dismissal of the case.

EventRebels, an online meetings management provider, has introduced the E-Checking option for conference registrants. This feature, which is part of the standard EventRebels online registration package, allows attendees to provide their bank information securely.

"We found that people who register online need other options to pay for their conference registration besides a credit card," said K. C. Hopson, CEO EventRebels.
