A statewide smoking ban in Minnesota
will go into effect Oct. 1, pending the signature of Gov. Tim
Pawlenty, according to Kevin Matzek, director of government affairs
for Hospitality Minnesota, an association representing the state's
restaurants and lodging businesses. The ban would prohibit smoking
indoors, including restaurants, bars and public spaces in hotels,
with few exceptions. Smoking would still be permitted in certain
hotel rooms. The state legislature approved the ban last week.
