The 220-room Marriott Metairie at
Lakeway in New Orleans, on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain,
opened this week. The hotel's 6,500 square feet of meeting space
features both wired and wireless high-speed Internet access. The
hotel also is home to Bistro 38, a new eatery by acclaimed chef
Dominique Macquet, owner of Dominique's in the French Quarter.
National Trust Historic Hotels of
America has added six members, bringing the organization's total to
213 properties. The new members are the Hotel Colorado, Glenwood
Springs, Colo.; The Sofia Hotel, San Diego; Tubac Golf Resort,
Tubac, Ariz.; Jumeirah Essex House, New York City; and the Colcord
Hotel and Skirvin Hilton, both in Oklahoma City.
The 432-room Doubletree Hotel
Philadelphia City Center has opened the Assembly on Five conference
center. The new facility features 4,200 square feet of meeting
space comprising six meeting rooms (with views of downtown
Philadelphia) and an outdoor patio. Overall, the hotel offers
23,500 square feet of event and banquet space.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide
is building the W Verbier Retreat in the ski resort town of
Verbier, Switzerland. The 142-room property, slated to open in late
2009, will offer ski-in, ski-out access. It will be part of a
luxury mixed-use development that will include two retail
buildings, a restaurant and a night club. At press time, no
information was available on meeting space.
Principal Hotels has acquired the 66-room Hawkstone Park Hotel
near Shrewsbury, England. The country property has two 18-hole
championship golf courses, a six-hole learner's course, five
meeting rooms, two restaurants and a park.
The 174-room Golden Tulip Antwerp
Center will open in Belgium in September. The property will have a
ballroom, 11 meeting rooms, a fitness center and a spa.
Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces is
acquiring the 110-room Campton Place, a boutique hotel near San
Francisco's Union Square, from the Kor Hotel Group for $58 million.
The hotel will be Taj's third in North America, along with The
Pierre in New York and the former Ritz-Carlton Boston, now the Taj
Boston. The property has about 2,000 square feet of meeting
InterContinental Hotels Group will
convert the 100-year-old Gibbs Building in downtown San Antonio
into a 91-room Hotel Indigo. To open in early 2008, the property
will have meeting space for small groups.
