Designs call for a new 4,900-square-foot ballroom, two 1,000-square-foot meeting rooms and a 700- to 800-square-foot boardroom, to open in late 2008 or early 2009.

The 495-room Holiday Inn City Centre in Chicago was purchased by CCC Hotel Partners, a joint venture between Oxford Lodging Advisory & Investment Group and Dubai Investment Group, and the hotel has been renamed the Chicago City Centre Hotel & Sports Club. The purchase gives Oxford and its management company, Kokua Hospitality, control of 1,300 rooms in downtown Chicago, and Oxford is spending $35 million to renovate and rebrand the properties. Last year, Oxford purchased the 357-room Best Western Inn of Chicago, due to emerge from a renovation this year, as well as the 443-room Allerton Crowne Plaza Chicago, which soon will begin a renovation.

Construction began on Monday for an $11 million upgrade to the 497-room Hyatt Regency Indianapolis, which will add 10,000 square feet of meeting space, including an 8,241-square-foot ballroom, to the hotel. A new restaurant serving breakfast and lunch, as well as a new bar, will be added to the lobby level. The hotel will have 35,000 square feet of meeting space upon completion of the project, currently set for mid-July.

A 180-room Renaissance Hotel will be built in the Denver Tech Center. Construction will begin in May and finish up by July 2008. Meeting space has yet to be determined.

The 277-room Wyndham Canoa Ranch Resort has opened outside Tucson in Green Valley, Ariz. The property offers two golf courses; a spa and a fitness center still are under construction.

The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, on Maui, announced a new renovation project last week. The $95 million upgrade will touch all 363 guest rooms and 107 residential suites (also available to guests) as well as the food and beverage outlets and spa. The project will kick off this July and should wrap up by late December.
