Ken Foster resigned as general manager
of the Palm Beach County Convention Center last Wednesday; he is
the only general manager the center has had, taking the job in 2001
and opening the facility in January 2004. No official confirmation
was available from the center itself or from the Palm Beach County
Convention & Visitors Bureau, but according to reports in both
the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and the Palm BeachPost, he quit due to what he considered bad business
practices by the CVB, from which a former controller is alleged to
have stolen $1.5 million. The bureau's president and CEO, Warren E.
"Mac" McLaughlin, and its vice president of finance, Lee H. Davis,
criticized for not catching the embezzlement, each also resigned in
the past two weeks.
