On Nov. 16, the Nevada Gaming Commission approved the $2.75 billion buyout of Aztar Corp. by Columbia Sussex Corp. At the meeting, Columbia proposed a $2 billion renovation of what will be its new flagship property, the 1,874-room Tropicana Resort & Casino Las Vegas. The deal is expected to be finalized in mid-December, and work on the project, which could add more than 6,000 hotel rooms, will start next fall.
