A New Jersey Superior Court judge has ruled that an increase in the state sales tax from 6 to 7 percent, which was enacted in July, does apply to the state's limousine and car-service industry. The Limousine Association of New Jersey had challenged the increase, stating, "this new law does not specify exactly why limousine services are subject to the tax." The association -- which says its members will not charge the tax for rides originating or ending in New Jersey that include stops in other states -- plans to continue its opposition to the tax.
