Thai members of the Pacific Asia Travel Association are trying to reassure the travel industry that Thailand's tourism and travel services are operating normally and that there has been no violence associated with last week's military coup d'etat that unseated the elected government. Nonetheless, Central Hotels & Resorts, Grand Diamond, Minor International and Wired Destinations all have reported canceled business, according to the association. "We at PATA feel it is important to send a clear message to the global travel industry that, so far at least, the situation here is calm and nonviolent," said Peter de Jong, president and CEO of PATA.
