A JW Marriott will be built on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The 310-room JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa, to open in late 2008, will be part of the 4,000-acre Hacienda Pinilla Beach Resort and Residential Community. Other amenities on site will include a golf course and an equestrian center. The Marriott will have a 13,500-square-foot spa and 5,500 square feet of meeting space, including a 3,000-square-foot ballroom.

A $19 million conference and events center opened last week at the Kalahari Resort, a 596-room hotel and water park in Sandusky, Ohio. The NIA Center features 95,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 17,200-square-foot ballroom.

Refurbishments at the 123-room Athenaeum hotel in London have been completed in public areas, including the lobby, bar, restaurant and lounge. The property's three meeting rooms were updated earlier this year.

The 806-room Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa announced the completion of a $1 million rooms renovation last Thursday. Highlights include new furniture and dEcor in the Palace and Presidential suites and new carpeting, wine refrigerators and mini bars in the guest rooms.

The Griffin Gate Marriott Resort in Lexington, Ky., will add a $1.5 million full-service spa. Another $1.5 million will be spent to renovate the resort's bar and restaurant area and create three new conference rooms, giving the resort more than 21,000 square feet of meeting space. The restaurant and bar renovations should be completed in January 2007, and the spa and conference rooms in April 2007.

Three hospitality and real estate entities have partnered to acquire two Doubletree hotels: the 300-room Doubletree Hotel Dallas-Campbell Centre and the 248-room Doubletree Hotel Denver-Southeast in Aurora, Colo. More than $9 million will be spent to modernize the properties through room renovations and amenities. The hotels will be managed by one of the partners, Aimbridge Hospitality. The other two partners in the transaction are GoldenTree InSite Partners and JF Capital Advisors.
