On Monday, an earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale caused a tsunami to strike the southern coast of the Indonesian island of Java, resulting in at least 300 deaths. According to the Antara, the national news agency of Indonesia, the tsunami destroyed around 40 percent of the structures along the Pangandaran coast of Java, an area popular with tourists. Reports say much of the tourism infrastructure was affected in Krapyak Beach, West Beach, East Beach, Batu Hiu, Karang Tirta, Bojong Salawe, Batu Karas, Bulak Banda, Legok and Bulak Laut Pangandaran.
On Tuesday, Jin Jiang International Hotel Management Co., China's largest hotel group, announced a deal with Travelocity to make its inventory available globally through the online travel company's Net Rate Hotel program. Jin Jiang controls 220 hotels throughout China with 4,600 rooms, including the Peace Hotel in Shanghai's Bund district, one of the countryÕs best-known properties.
