The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which operates the Mohegan Sun casino and entertainment complex in Uncasville, Conn., has purchased the Pautipaug Country Club in Baltic, Conn., 20 minutes from the casino. Mitchell Estess, president and CEO of Mohegan Sun and the Authority, said the addition of a golf course will enhance the gaming property as a leisure and meetings destination. Addressing questions of future expansion, Estess acknowledged that an architect has been hired to draw up plans, but he would not elaborate on the designs. He did say that significant construction, such as a new hotel, would not occur on the grounds of the newly acquired 88-acre country club.
