On June 8, Greektown Casino in Detroit started construction on a hotel. When the 400-room addition is finished in mid-2008, the property will be renamed the Greektown Casino Resort. The hotel, as well as 25,000 square feet of additional casino space (for a new total of 100,000), initially was to open in time for Super Bowl XL in February of this year, but politics and legal issues delayed work, as they did for two other Detroit casinos also approved to build 400-room hotels. The Greektown Casino, which opened in 2000, also will build a spa, a 1,500-seat theater and an as-yet-unannounced amount of meeting space.
