The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and the Hynes Convention Center now offer free wireless Internet access. During a pilot program in April, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority found 27 percent of attendees at two technology trade shows used the free service, whereas only about 1 percent of attendees typically pay to use wireless Internet. Wired Internet service still will be available for purchase.

An electrical fire forced the Dayton (Ohio) Convention Center to close on Monday. There were no injuries, and the building only sustained damage in the closet where the electrical short occurred. "If you didn't know there was a fire there, you wouldn't be able to tell," said a spokesperson for the city of Dayton, which owns and operates the center. The Ohio Accounting Show is scheduled to begin today at the center, although as of Tuesday morning, power had not been restored. Last week, the Dayton City Commission approved approximately $2.5 million worth of contracts to update the center's façade and add an LED video sign to the front of the building. That construction is expected to be complete within six months.
