During the Global Education Conference of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives, held May 7-9 in Atlanta, keynote speaker Julie Louise Gerberding, MD, MPH, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, spoke on global health protection in the 21st century. During the presentation, a poll of the audience showed that 66 percent of travel management companies have no plan for dealing with a pandemic, and 72 percent of other travel industry suppliers have no such plan. The convention was attended by 1,166 people.

Meeting Professionals International will offer more than 50 new sessions at its 2006 World Education Congress, to be held in Dallas July 9-11. The breakouts represent about half of the content being presented. Two new tracks are being introduced: the Strategic Thinking Track and the Strategic Meetings Management Track. In other news, the organization has announced the formation of the new Atlantic Canada Chapter, bringing the total to 68 chapters/clubs worldwide.
