In Chicago, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 241 workers voted on Tuesday to authorize a strike against the Chicago Transit Authority. No date for a strike has been set, and union president Darrell Jefferson plans to meet with CTA officials on Friday. The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 241 workers have been without a contract since 2003, and the workers believe the CTA has violated contract provisions concerning bus operator scheduling, injured workers and job assignments. The union voted for a similar strike in 2001, but a walkout was avoided.
