The 465-room Carefree Resort and Villas in Carefree, Ariz., now will be managed by West Paces Hotel Group, the company run by Horst Schulze and other former Ritz-Carlton executives. West Paces also will manage another Phoenix-area resort, the 308-room Montelucia, formerly La Posada, which is undergoing a $200 million renovation and is scheduled to reopen in fall 2007.

Opening tomorrow at the Sandia Resort & Casino, just north of Albuquerque, N.M., is a multimillion-dollar expansion. The property now offers a 228-room hotel, 50,000 square feet of meeting space, four restaurants, a 12,000-square-foot spa and the 18-hole Sandia Golf Club.

Opening today is the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort and Casino in Scottsdale/Fountain Hills, Ariz. The 248-room property has 25,000 square feet of meeting space, and guests have access to the nearby We-Ko-Pa Golf Club.

Celebrating a soft opening tomorrow is the Lodge at Whitefish Lake in Whitefish, Mont. The 77-room property offers 8,000 square feet of function space.

Millennium & Copthorne Hotels PLC will manage the 350-room Millennium Hongqiao Shanghai, the brand's first hotel in China. The 12-story property, close to the Shanghai Exhibition and Convention Centre, is in the final stages of construction and is expected to open in mid-2006.

Murfreesboro, Tenn., will be home to a new 280-suite Embassy Suites hotel and adjoining 80,000-square-foot conference center in the fall of 2007, according to John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts LLC. Construction of the Murfreesboro Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center will begin in the first quarter of 2006. Thirty miles southeast of Nashville, the center will be adjacent to a 900,000-square-foot open-air development dubbed "The Avenue," also currently in the planning stages, which will feature restaurants and retail shops. Plans for the configuration of the meeting space have not been finalized.

Ground was broken last week on the Mainsail Resort Marina & Spa, a $65 million development on Scrub Island in the British Virgin Islands. A five-minute ferry ride from Tortola, the resort will include 90 hotel rooms divided between a boutique hotel, villas and residences. A marina, a shopping village and a $2 million spa also will be part of the project.

The Wyndham Pittsburgh Airport hotel has been reflagged as a Marriott. The Pittsburgh Airport Marriott, managed by Interstate Hotels & Resorts, will be given a $10 million renovation beginning in February. Work will be done to all public space, the fitness center, the restaurant, the building's exterior and the 316 guest rooms, which will be equipped with Marriott's new bedding. The hotel has 12,000 square feet of meeting space with 18 breakout rooms.

Rocco Forte Hotels will open an upscale property in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The 101-room hotel will occupy five historic buildings, including St. Thomas's Monastery, which dates from the 14th century and will retain its courtyards, garden squares, cloistered terraces, wooden ceilings, wine vaults and stone arches. Opening in 2007, the five-story hotel also will have a 90-seat restaurant, a business center and six meeting rooms.
