On Nov. 5, armed pirates aboard two small boats attacked the cruise ship Seabourn Spirit off the northeastern coast of Africa, near Somalia. According to Miami-based Carnival subsidiary Seabourn Cruise Line, the Seabourn Spirit, carrying 151 passengers and 161 crew, used countermeasures to escape, bringing all guests and crew to safety in Victoria, Seychelles. "Saturday's incident on Seabourn Spirit was a highly unusual and isolated occurrence, and serves to demonstrate the efficacy of existing protocols and the ability of ship's officers and crews to protect their guests," said the cruise line's statement.
