A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Nov. 14 for the 265-room Hotel Contessa in San Antonio, Texas. On the city's River Walk, the all-suite property offers more than 10,000 square feet of meeting space, the Cork Bar, Las Ramblas restaurant and the Contessa Spa.

A developer plans to renovate Detroit's long-shuttered Book-Cadillac Hotel, which would become the 455-room Westin Book-Cadillac in spring 2008. The Ferchill Group, based in Cleveland, is expected to close on the deal on Dec. 19, the Detroit Free Press reported last Wednesday. Representatives at the Ferchill Group and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation did not return messages seeking comment. The Free Press reported the project is expected to cost more than $170 million and will include 66 condominium units.

San Francisco's Joie de Vivre Hospitality will open its first Los Angeles property next year. After $12 million in renovations, the 209-room Holiday Inn Brentwood - Bel Air will debut as the Hotel Angeleno next February, with four meeting rooms totaling 2,575 square feet and a penthouse restaurant called West.
