The Palm Springs (Calif.) Desert Resorts Convention & Visitors Authority is on the brink of hiring a new president and CEO, according to local reports. Yesterday morning, Jeff Beckelman, president and CEO of the Reno-Sparks (Nev.) Convention and Visitors Authority, told The Desert Sun he was the top candidate for the California position. Although no final offer has been made, Beckelman predicted that "this will all be concluded in the next 48 hours." Consultant Norm Roberts, who has been enlisted to conduct the job search, would not verify the identity of the CVA's lead candidate, but did reveal to M&C that last week's pool of three had been whittled down to one, and that Beckelman's estimate of 48 hours was accurate. The CVA has been under the helm of interim president Steve Morris since president Michael E. Fife was asked to resign in March over accusations of financial impropriety.
