The Ecstasy and the
Sensation, the two Carnival Cruise Lines' ships that were
docked in Galveston last week as part of the Hurricane Katrina
relief effort, are now in New Orleans where they are expected to
house relief workers, according to a spokesperson for the line. A
third ship, the Holiday, is in Mobile, Ala.; according to
Carnival, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is looking into
how to best use the ship there. The three ships were chartered for
six months to the Military Sealift Command on behalf of FEMA.
The Delta Queen Steamboat Co. has
canceled cruises on its American Queen vessel through
March 6. The ship was scheduled to operate three- and four-day
cruises from New Orleans, coupled with overnight stays in the city.
The company is working with various government authorities to make
the American Queen available in the overall relief efforts
for the Gulf Coast region.
