The 286-room InterContinental
Dusseldorf (Germany) will open next week. The property has 21
meeting rooms, including a ballroom that seats up to 726, and 6,900
square feet of exhibit space.
Peebles Atlantic Development Corp. has
bought 87 acres of oceanfront in Pacifica, Calif., 15 minutes south
of downtown San Francisco. The retail-residence-hotel development
plan will be modeled after California's Half Moon Bay and will
feature a luxury hotel offering between 200 and 300 rooms. The
development group's CEO R. Donahue Peebles hopes to have the hotel
open in two to three years.
The historic Palmer House Hilton in Chicago was acquired last
Wednesday for $230 million by Thor Equities, a company that
specializes in urban redevelopment projects. Thor plans to spend
more than $100 million to renovate the 1,639-room hotel and add a
retail center. Hilton will continue to manage the property, which
offers 130,000 square feet of meeting space.
Sydney, Australia-based Rendezvous Hotels International will
manage the Rendezvous Baohong Hotel, Sanya, on the Chinese resort
island of Hainan in the South China Sea. The property, set to open
in October 2005, features 300 guest rooms, 31 suites, a
"Western-style" restaurant, a recreation center, a grand dining
hall for 300 people and 10 meeting rooms for up to 550 people.
Rendezvous currently operates seven hotels in the Asia-Pacific
